Conway Maritime Press
Conway Maritime Press was founded in 1972 with the aim of reaching a specific 'Shipping' and 'Nautical' readership with its initial quarterly journals: 'Model Shipwright' and 'Warship' which eventually became annual publications.
With its famous 'Anatomy of the Ship' series at the forefront, Conway have since built an extensive catalogue of books specialising in maritime heritage, ship design & construction and naval military history.
Conway now forms part of the Adlard Coles Nautical imprint under the umbrella of Bloomsbury Publishing.
Conway's History of the Ship
In 1992, Conway Maritime Press began an ambitious programme of twelve volumes intended to provide the first detailed and comprehensive account of one of the foremost technologies to shape human history - the ship.
It was conceived as a basic reference work, the essential first stop for anyone seeking information on any aspect of the ship. so completeness was prioritised over originality.
The series took full account of all the latest research as at the time of publication with certain areas including completely new material. Old myths were deliberately avoided in order to present the most widely accepted modern viewpoints.
Each volume takes the form of independent chapters, all by recognised authorities in the field. Most are devoted to the ships themselves, but others deal with topics such as 'Shiphandling and Navigation' that are more generally applicable.
Wherever possible the specific details of ships and their characteristics have been included and with a few small exceptions, the series is confined to seagoing vessels.
The series is aimed at those with some knowledge of, and interest in, ships and the sea.
